P- T- AHHHH!!!

So the 2011-2012 school year was my first time on the PTA Board.  Honestly, I really like being on the PTA, but I did do 85% of my service hours during the month of May.  I always enjoy getting done with my school at the end of April and then having a month with the kids in school to get my act together.  This year was definitely a little different!  As soon as I was done with school, I spent about 15 hours a week at the kids' school making up for a year of not being able to help out in the mornings.  (Teachers rarely want volunteers in the afternoon, I have discovered, which is a bummer for me.  Maybe that will change as they get into the upper grades.)

Anyhoo, I got to help with lots of fun stuff like Bulletin  Boards and Teacher Appreciation and our Second Annual Adams Eagles FIT Fun Run!  And let me tell you something:

My Son Can Run!!!
I am a little bummed we only have video of soccer this year, I didn't have any pictures.  But I tell you what:  He is fast.  Period.  Matt and I both went to his first soccer game this season and our jaws dropped.  He has always been pretty good at soccer; I think he's always one of the best players.  But this season, something happened.  It was like a little switch turned on inside him and it all came together" Speed, Strength, Aggression, Footwork.  He's got some moves.  Anyway, I tell you all of this because my favorite, my very very favorite part of watching Isaac play soccer is when someone from the other team takes the ball from him (or anyone on his team really).  You know what happens?  That person is sorry.  That's what happens.  Isaac starts to run.  And then he turns on the switch.  He's like a Cheetah, I tell you. He will sprint down the field and take that ball back almost every time. Part of me used to feel that this could be explained by his height advantage, but  Even the handful of kids comparable in height cannot compete with his speed.  (I know I sound like a complete show off, but I'm compensating for the lack of pictures... forgive me) Anyway, I tell you all of this to preface my story about our school's 5K Fundraiser.  We trained a little, but the girls had a hard time, and we never even got through more than 3 miles with them.  So the day of, I wasn't even sure if they would finish the race.  I didn't get to run with them because I was selling pizzas.  So Matt ran with Daphne and pushed Tori in the stroller.  Isaac took off on his own.  Daphne and Tori  stopped half way and came back to hang out with me.  Matt ran back to check on Isaac.  And you know what?!!
He came in 3rd place with a time of 24:36!
He also said he would have passed the person in front of him but he wasn't sure where to go, so he just hung back!!  Ha!  I can't tell you how it fills my heart to watch my children be successful and happy and proud of their accomplishments!  Who knew it could be so wonderful?!

So a few weeks later, I got to run Field Day for the entire school.  Yep, the whole day for the whole school. It took weeks of planning and was a huge undertaking, but I was excited.  Turns out, it went OK!  I have a lot of ideas for how to make next year run more smoothly and have more fun.  Matt was my devoted assistant/ time keeper/ strong man/ awesome partner in crime.  He actually took two days off work to help me pull it off. (Isn't he fantastic?!)  We were waaaay too busy to be photographers as well, but Matt did snap this one shot of Daphne and me.

The biggest negative about field day was my lack of concern for my own skin!  I actually applied sunscreen once, but did not even think about the backs of my legs.  This was me the next morning:
My legs were almost purple and I peeled for weeks.  Not brilliant.  I still have a line on the backs of my legs.  It's pretty trashy looking.  But hey, that's just me, I guess!
Sometimes, I think I get so used to the face that my children have Native American skin and rarely burn that I start to think I'm invincible or something.  Who knows what I was thinking, really?  Mostly about schedules and whistle blowing and water buckets and... you get the idea.  At least I won't make the same mistake next year.  Yeah, I'm in charge of Field Day again.  Yippee!
